As I mentioned before my Nan was a big inspiration in my up and coming life. Suddenly she frightened us all. After feeling poorly for a week she was rushed into hospital with a burst appendix. Whilst she was recovering I naturally took over running the Office for the Family Business. Oh my what a task to start with. Basic equipment the old faithful manual typewriter. I could not type out the months Invoices on that, too slow, so my Grandad authorized me to buy a new electric one. I sorted all the Accounts, VAT and got the paperwork back on track. My Nan recovered well and let me continue helping as she took a back seat.
So now I had two jobs as well as occasional private Secretarial work. Busy bee in those days but I enjoyed it.
In between I also stared to play darts for our local Pub. Dad pestered me to have a go and so I thought in for a penny etc. I then bought myself a set of "Eric Bristow" darts from Argos, these must be good as he won with them! Well I loved it. Playing twice a week during the winter months I threw the "arrows". I played in and around the local Pubs within the Canterbury area and had a laugh and met some lovely people. After playing for a couple of years and intense practicing I eventually won two Ladies Singles Championships. How chuffed was I ! Two trophies and a shield with my name on I had star status at our Pub.

However, It had its pro's and cons being "a champ". We played in a mixed team and some Men from the other Pub teams would not play against me in the single games. I think they were scared of being beaten by a woman!
My Nan and Grandad then decided it was time to retire and handed the Business over to my Dad. I then continued to run the Office and my salary was having my car Taxed, Fuel and Insurance paid for. That suited me fine as I had now bought another car. This time a Peugeot 309 sri , loved this car, so fast. So thanks to my Grandparents I had a good start and sadly they are no longer here but always in my thoughts.
